4th Birthday

Alex woke up to this in the morning--a handmade greeting from Batman (Matt was very meticulous about getting the bat symbol right).

We made fried eggs (his fav) and sausage for breakfast. Alex got some cool cards to enjoy and said hi to some family on the phone.
It was raining yesterday, so we (actually they--I was decorating the cake) started out the day playing in puddles and such.

We wanted to have him fly a kite, throw water balloons, and have a fire, but the rain and lightning put an end to those plans, so we got a cartoon at the library instead. And of course there was the present opening. Jace and Heather came over because Alex invited them impromptu, but I didn't get any pictures with them--or with Matt and I, so oh well.

A game and wagon from Grandpa Robin and Grandma Linda
He really like playing this game--and he won!

A ton of cool books from Grandma Jill
He had us read "There's a wocket in my pocket" 4 times yesterday

Bekah benefits from these as well.

Legos and cars from Mom and Dad

From Grandma Sallie and Grandpa Rich: the thing Alex hasn't wanted to take off since he put it on--a batman costume.

Needless to say, he got plenty of love from everyone. And there is another on the way coming with Aunt Jenny.
Anyway, so we had hot dogs for dinner (we basically only ate protein the whole day), and then, of course, cake and ice cream. Any guesses on the cake? That's right. Batman.

The black frosting made for some fun pictures

That's all folks!

Rehearsal Dinner

I'm sure many can relate to (and I'm glad we aren't the only ones who have this issue) trying to get your kids to eat--especially at dinner time. So I thought I'd lay out the script we have for the evening meal.

S: Time for dinner!
A: I don't like dinner, I like lunch.
S: Ok, fine, it's lunch.
A: But it's not a sandwich.
M: Do you want to put your rice on bread?
A: (whimpering)
M: Bekah, take your fork out of your milk.
S: Alex, eat.
A: But I need help.
M: How old are you?
A: 3
M: Then you don't need help.
A: But I don't want to be 3.
M: Bekah, use your fork.
S: Alex, you need to eat.
A: I want Bekah to eat it.
B: I don't want it.
S: Better eat before it gets cold.
B: (holding her bowl out) Dad, can I put you in the microwave?
M: You want to put ME in the microwave?
A: (giggles)
B: I don't want onion.
M: You are an onion.
B: No, your a bummie onion.
S: Bekah, use your fork!

Mum's the word

So, for Mother's day, Matt made me french toast for breakfast. He came home Saturday evening to me making a breakfast (for dinner), and said I'd ruined his plans because the sausage was for a Mother's day breakfast in the morning. Whoops. The french toast was great though--we still had some real maple syrup left (yay Costco!), even though Alex drank an ENTIRE 8 oz bottle of it when I wasn't looking.
Then I got to open presents. I got Sense and Sensibility, because our other copy was broken (that would be Alex again), some bowls, candy, a macaroni necklace, and, this might be my favorite: a book about me. The book is from Alex--I guess I can forgive him now.

Here's what it says, with Alex's responses:

My Mom always says....Bekah, don't run in the street!
My Mom loves it when I.....pray.
My Mom is very good at....picking up sticks on the lawn.
I love my Mom because....she sleeps with Dad in his bed.
I think that my Mom is silly when she.....does stuff funny.
My Mom really likes to eat....chicken and meat.
My Mom helps me by.....buying more pancakes.
My Mom spends most of her time....picking up all those sticks.
Just some clarifications: The chicken and meat thing is something Alex really likes to eat, not really me. We had Alex help pick up sticks to earn some money--I guess he thought that took a lot of time.

Anyway, besides Bekah throwing up, Mother's Day was really good. Matt and I made dinner, but he cleaned up (he usually does anyway), and we watched S and S that night. There was, of course, ice cream to attend the movie. 'Twas a good day and I didn't even have a headache!

Another Tag...Ah

A description from my middle name.
P.S. If you can name the movie from the title (sort of), you get 10 pts

J - Jumper. I have always loved to jump. This was my favorite part of cheerleading and ballet, too. Ok, maybe that is lame, but Mary took "Jerk", so I couldn't use that one.

E - Eager. I'm always looking forward to what is coming up. I suppose I need to learn to live in the moment. Yay! I'm blogging!!!!

N - Narcoleptic. Okay, not really. I definitely can't fall asleep anywhere and I am a really light sleeper. I just like to sleep. I'm a night person, so I like to sleep after midnight and until 8 or 9 ideally.

N - Naproxen Sodium. That is Aleve, for you non-druggies. I get A LOT of headaches. Drugs are my friend.

I - Indecisive. I couldn't decide to put "intelligent" or "idiot", then it hit me.
"So what you wanna do?" "I dunno--Hey, now don't start that again!"

F - Fabulously freakish! Everybody's weird in some way or another. I could have said "Freakin' hot!" or "Fibber". Is that a word?

E - Excited this is almost over. Oh that's you, not me. Sorry.

R - Random. You probably already figured this one out from reading the rest of this rubbish.

I tag Jenny "lucky charm" Sherman and Jenny "rockstar" Crellin, because you share my name.

Visitors from the West

So we had our mini vacation (at home) with Uncle Nathan and Aunt Heather. It didn't take long for Bekah to adore her uncle (this was 1 hour after they arrived). Notice she is lying on a metal car.She did the same thing with Heather.

Is that all she did was sleep? Well, we did go to the lake and try to enjoy the view of the all the beautiful...smoke. Yeah, it was really smokey so that didn't last too long. Buy hey, we got some pictures, so here you go.

.

And the girls thought it necessary (in the tradition of Sarah and Heather 12 years ago) to paint their toenails. And we (not Bekah) watched 27 Dresses after, paired with some chocolate, of course.

Nate entertained the kids a lot (there was a lot of growling and other audio effects going on), and bought Bekah some hair clips (I think he was giving me a hint), and Alex that Spider-man hat. Heather got Alex to want a Spider-man cake for his birthday (instead of fire). Oh, and Nate fixed our toilet. Like I said, it was a mini vacation for me, really.

The Sequel

O Chocolate, Chocolate, how I love thee.
What are you anyway, a he or a she?

If you are male, what does that mean?
Rich, dark, and dreamy, but probably not clean.

Maybe like woman, a gift from God.
Soft and smooth, but sometimes quite odd.

No, they both have flaws; and let's tell the truth:
Chocolate is PERFECT, the fountain of youth!

Ok, so that is a bit obsessive, I know. That is what you get at a 2am, trying to fall asleep, mind-wandering spell of creativity. I have to admit that the first one was better. In case you missed that click here.
